How much greenhouse is too much?
Your State or Federal MP Re: Concentration of Greenhouse Gasses I’m inquiring about the level of Greenhouse Gasses that you believe is desirable and that which you believe the Australian Government should set as a target. Would you please tell me in Parts Per Million (ppm); - What level of CO2 concentration you believe should be the ceiling.
- What level of CO2 concentration you believe is safe.
For your information I submit some scientific data on CO2 levels in parts per million (ppm); | CO2 level | Impact | | 325-355 ppm | Point where arctic sea ice may be preserved all year. | | 350 ppm | Highest ‘safe’ limit of CO2 concentrations according to James Hansen head of the NASA Goddard Institute. | | 385 ppm Current Level | Loss of Arctic ice[1]. Increasing aridity in Mediterranean, southern USA, parts of Africa and Australia. Large glacier losses2 | | 450 ppm | Most coral lost from reefs, including the Great Barrier Reef.[2] Global temperature will be at least 2 degrees Celsius warmer. | | 500 ppm | Marine Reef systems collapse[3] (Great Barrier Reef) Phytoplankton (the grasslands of the sea) struggle to survive.[4] | | 550 ppm | Sea levels stabilize at bout 70 meters higher than today. Long-term temperature stabilization around 6 degrees Celsius.[5] | One of the world’s best scientists on climate, James Hansen from the NASA Goddard Institute stated on 23 June 2008 that “the often stated goal to keep global warming less than two degrees Celsius is a recipe for global disaster, not salvation.”[6] I look forward to your response. Sincerely,
Ross Wilmotm
